Loco Moco

I'm working on a new story featuring Officer Jenny Freitas of the Hawaii County Police. It begins with a noise complaint incited by a neighbor keeping roosters on his property in the rainy, sparsely populated Puna district, but the the local breakfast favorite loco moco plays an important part in the climax of the story.

What is loco moco, you ask? Start with a bed of rice. Put a ground beef patty on it, and then a fried egg on top of that. But here's the secret: pour on too much brown gravy, and then pour on even more. Until you can handle it, you're not kama'aina (a longtime resident of the islands).

The working title of the story is Downsides, but that may change.
